We’re back in Greenville, SC for two concerts by the orchestra there. From a March 2015 Masterworks program we hear music with “German Inspirations,” including an overture by the early Romantic, Weber, and symphonic music by the 20th century composer Hindemith inspired by Weber’s solo piano compositions. That concert concludes with Brahms follow-up second symphony. Then, from a Chamber Classics concert the same month, we hear highlights including a youthful string symphony by Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky’s immortal work for string orchestra.
CARL MARIA VON WEBER: Overture
PAUL HINDEMITH: Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Weber
PETER ILLYICH TCHAIKOVSKY: String Serenade in C
